About Us

1993 was our first mission. Invited to Da Nang Vietnam by the Ministry of Health. This mission focused on reconstruction of children with cleft lip and palate. Notably, Project Outreach (PO) was the first medical mission team to work in Danang after the Vietnam war.

In 1995 and 1997, our mission expanded to include Pediatric Eye surgery and Urology.  In 1998 PO brought a Pediatric Oncology team from Alberta Children's Hospital to work with Vietnamese colleagues at the Ho Chi Minh Cancer Center. Formal educational days were part of each mission.

In 1999, PO sponsored Vietnamese pediatric nurses with subspecialties in Pediatric General Surgery and Oncology to spend one month at Alberta Children's Hospital. 

In 2000, PO coordinated with the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons, and sponsored 3 Vietnamese physicians for 3 month fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesia, Pediatric General Surgery, Pediatric Urology and Pediatric Oncology at the Alberta Children's Hospital.

Project Outreach's work continued from 2000 to 2005 with physicians and allied health care workers from Calgary teaching at the National Institute of Pediatrics in Hanoi Vietnam.

​In 2008, PO was invited to Cuenca, Ecuador, to perform Pediatric Orthopedic surgery. 

In 2011, PO invited by the health authority in Peru, performed reconstructive burn surgery. 

PO continued with Pediatric surgical missions to Peru in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2019. 

In 2017 we returned to Vietnam, to help provide medical and surgical care to the children from the central highlands. PO returned in 2018 and again in 2023.  

In 2024 PO sponsored 2 senior Vietnamese Medical students to spend one month at Alberta Children's Hospital. 

In October of 2024/2025 PO financed and facilitated one week intensive educational seminars in the Fundamentals of Simulation Based Learning in Medical Education at the Phan Chau Trinh University. 

2026 PO financed and helped faciliate the Fundamentals of Simulation course to health care professionals with a focus on Maternal Newborn Health,  at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi Ghana.
